Public projects in the cities of Adrian and Grand Rapids could get $25,000 and $10,000 respectively from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation if they raise as much in an online crowdfunding campaign which kicked off this week. These two new projects are the most recent in the Public Spaces Community Places program, which MEDC is doing in collaboration with Patronicity and the Michigan Municipal League. The projects have to raise the funds via crowdfunding on Patronicity’s website, and if they meet their target – will get a dollar for dollar match to help execute the local project.

Kiwanis Trailhead Park

In Adrian – the goal is $25,000 to help create a trail connector from the popular Kiwanis Trail to the heart of downtown Adrian. It will allow the organizers to construct a park that will provide a physical link between the trail and the downtown which will feature benches, lighting, landscaping, signage and pathways. Organizers have already gotten over $100,000 committed to the project – and this program could help them get the remaining dollars necessary to make it come to life!

In Grand Rapids,  the Avenue for the Arts (work) Space is raising $10,000 to help develop and maintain a physical location in the South Division neighborhood to serve as a community meeting place, artist gallery and HAvenue for the Arts {Work} Spaceeadquarters for the successful Avenue for the Arts organization that has worked for years to transform the neighborhood. And, bonus,  if you donate – you get artwork!
